Least Bittern taking off in flight
As I was sorting through images to make room for more images on my very full external hard drive, I found this little guy. They are incredibly difficult to catch in flight so I decided to post it. This was taken in April of this year at the Viera Wetlands in Florida which has become one of my favorite places to photograph birds. I wrote an article about the Viera Wetlands that was recently published in Nature Photographer Magazine in their new App version of their wonderful publication. If you are not familiar with this publication and you are a nature photography enthusiast, please check out their magazine!
Autumn colors in Slatyfork, West Virginia
Doesn’t this just make you want to take an autumn photographic trip to West Virginia? This scene is outside Sharp’s Country store in Slatyfork, West Virginia.
The bright colors of the fall leaves make a nice backdrop don’t you think, especially juxtaposed against the bright blue sky and red barn?
I used a 24-70 lens at f 7 and 1/320th of a second. You can’t get sharp images with good depth of field without a TRIPOD. If you’re shooting landscapes always bring your tripod!
Autumn is in the air here in the mountains
The temperatures were very chilly here in the Blue Ridge Mountains today and of course it makes me think about photographing fall colors. Since our leaves have only just started to turn their brilliant reds, and yellows here in Asheville, I thought I would share an autumn image that I took last October. This image is Ox Bow Bend in the Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming. Mount Moran is in the distance and the Snake River winds around the mountains reflecting the mountains and the trees. This scene is photographed millions of times by tourists and photographers but I couldn’t resist! I used my 70-200 at 98mm, f 7 at 1/800th of a second. What do you think?
