These seabirds are uncommon unless you know where to find them. They look like little clowns and I dare you not to smile when you see them!

Mottled Duck with ducklings
The Mottled duck wears a fairly drab outfit but they are quite vocal. Their voice is the epitome of the classical duck “quack”. They Quack like a duck, walk like a duck and they are floating in duckweed!
Double-Crested Cormorant
These waterbirds are very commonly seen, but in their breeding colors they are spectacular. Look at those eyes!
Indian Blue Peacock
I was driving to Bosque del Apache early one morning last winter in the small town of San Antonio, New Mexico and had to stop to allow this iridescent bird to cross the road.
Not what I was expecting to see!
Willet
This large sandpiper is a shore bird that looks just like all the other shorebirds, very nondescript until it takes off in flight. In fight, this bird has a bold black and white wing pattern with a white tail that sets it apart from all the other shorebirds and it’s song sounds just like it’s name!
