I’ve been chasing these beautiful little shy birds with amazing frustration trying to catch just ONE in flight. I’ve decided that they are playing games with me ;- ) and they wait until I’m tired and THEN they fly. Last month I traveled to the Viera Wetlands in Florida and managed to
finally nab one in flight. I found that it worked best with a hand held IS 70-200 with a 2X extender instead of a longer lens on a gimbal head which is my usual approach to capturing
birds in flight. These shy small herons are so quick that I couldn’t manage to get them sharp in the long lens. Any input or advice is appreciated. Please share what technique works best for you.
